My CrEaTiOnS….

So, I make felt dolls, or StitchUps as they are now called. This is the story of how they first came about….

I started making felt dolls in my final years of school as a personal art project. I made 2 characters ((very poorly!!)), a bear and a voodoo doll ((naturally πŸ˜‰ ..)) and created a story. It was a lot of fun and I still have the dolls and story now, here at home :).

When I left school soon after, I had a lot of spare time on my hands and was getting bored fast, despite the fact that I’d be going to college soon. I thought back to school and my dolls and remembered how much fun I had had, designing and creating those little felt dolls.

The next week my dad took me around a small town with a great craft shop – which I ran straight in :). They had everything I needed to make more of my dolls – great!! So I started collecting different coloured felt sheets, cottons, buttons and accessories, toy-filling, glue, needles and tiny bows.. The shop was very well priced, too, and I had just got some early birthday money, so I took all of this straight up to the till ((dropping half of it, as I never think to grab a basket ;S)), when my Dad walked in and handed the cashier a Β£20 note, just as I was getting my money ready..!! So, in the end, Dad paid for my first tools and accessories that turned into a huge hobby and that I have now spent Β£100s on, simply because I love it!!

After a couple of months of making my dolls at home, Dad asked me if they had a name. I hadn’t even given it any thought!! So we brainstormed for a couple of days, and suddenly he came out with “StitchUps” – so they now have a name, too :).

I made dolls for friends and family, a couple of people were paying me to make them and suggested that I should be selling them to the general public.. So I made some flyers and would post them around the local villages and town. I didn’t really know any other way. I gave a few to companies and asked people to display them. I included my email address and within a couple of weeks, I received 3 orders. My largest order was for 2 personalized dolls and about 12 mini personalized Christmas stockings!! I got excited and started stitching and sewing that day!!

So now, it’s a few years later and I’m still making my StitchUps, creating hundreds of my own designs and taking personalized orders, too. Thank you if you’ve read this far πŸ˜€ I hope to hear from you soon!!
